How to use the Image Cropper

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP image.
  2. Choose a ratio preset — such as 1:1 for profile photos or 9:16 for stories — or choose Free.
  3. Drag the crop box to position it and drag a corner to resize. With the keyboard, use the arrow keys to move it and Shift + arrow keys to resize.
  4. Choose an output format and click "Crop & download".

Why use the Image Cropper?

Every platform crops images differently, and letting it auto-crop can cut off a face, a product or your logo. Cropping yourself to the exact ratio — 4:5 for Instagram portrait posts, 16:9 for YouTube and presentations, 9:16 for stories and reels — means you decide what stays in the frame. The cropper keeps the original resolution of the area you select, so nothing is resized unless you choose to. Your image is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Which ratio should I use for Instagram?

1:1 for square posts, 4:5 for portrait posts and 9:16 for stories and reels. Our Social Media Size Guide lists the recommended pixel sizes too.

Does cropping reduce quality?

Cropping removes the pixels outside the box but does not resize what remains. Saving as JPG or WebP applies light compression, set to high quality by default; PNG is lossless.

Can I crop without a fixed ratio?

Yes. Choose "Free" and drag the corners to any shape.

Can I use the cropper with a keyboard?

Yes. Tab to the crop box, use the arrow keys to move it and hold Shift with the arrow keys to resize it. Hold Alt for larger steps.
